This English essay about NATO looks at the conflict between Ukraine and Russia and its consequences.
Statement: 'NATO should not intervene in the Ukraine-Russia conflict'.
The school rated the essay with an 8.2.
Blood, weapons, refugees and conflicting, the Ukraine-Russian conflict is all over the news. Known is
that Ukraine and Russia never had a strong bond and now it will have consequences for both of
them. The NATO is on top of it because there were stories about Ukraine joining them, but now this
is not an option, there is a war. What should the NATO do, intervene or not? NATO should not
intervene in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
To start off with, intervening in the Ukraine-Russia conflict is a terrible idea because it will cause a
conflict between the NATO countries and Russia as well. Russia believes that Ukraine belongs to
Russia because they were part of the former Soviet-Union. Ukraine has a different opinion about this
statement and wants to join the NATO. The only obstacle is Russia. When the NATO members will
intervene in the conflict there is a large chance Russia will invade the NATO countries as well because
they must get power over Ukraine and if it is up to them no one will get in their way. Excluding Russia
invading the NATO is not smart because Putin already threatened with nuclear weapons. These are
not jokes.
Secondly, intervening in the Ukraine-Russia conflict will cost the NATO a lot of money which can be
used more efficient in different ways. Weapons and tanks need to be produced and sent to Ukraine
and the army needs to prepare for in the worst case scenario a war. And when investing all of this
money in intervening the chances are big they will get destroyed and killed immediately by the
Russian army. The better option is to stay in the background and invest in climate change solutions
for example in solar panels, hybrid and electric driving and recycling because on long terms climate
change will be fatal to the world.
However, not intervening in the Ukraine-Russia conflict will also have horrible economic
consequences for the NATO. Ukraine is one of the largest grain producers and Russia one of the
largest oil and gas suppliers. We will have a grain, gas and oil shortage because these products are
meaningful to every country. Eventually we will not be able to drive, cook and for example produce
bread anymore. By intervening, the conflict ends and both countries will get back to work and supply
their products after a short period of time.
But in contrast to this the NATO can also start finding solutions to the shortage of the products
coming from Ukraine and Russia. It is important being able to be totally self-sufficient in case
something like this conflict finds place in the future again. The NATO countries can support each
other by exchanging products one misses and the other one has an abundance of. By working
together, the NATO will get through and do not even need products from these two countries again.
To conclude, intervening in the conflict is not even an option. Intervening will cause a conflict
between the NATO countries and Russia as well, this will cost lives and money. Russia even
threatened with nuclear weapons. Not intervening in the conflict will cause economic problems for
the NATO, for example a grain and oil shortage but the solutions are there already. By becoming self-
sufficient and working together the NATO will come through. No war in the future anymore.
