Structures
Hierarchical
The characteristic of a hierarchical structure is the managing director is at the top of the chain
underneath him are the directors of finance, human resources, sales and marketing, operation and
purchasing and underneath of the directors are the mangers or accounts, human resources, sales,
marketing, IT, quality and buying. The relationships between employees and managers are beneficial
for them because they can gain advice on the tasks that they are doing because they will get advice
on what they are doing correct and wrong. The impact on the organisation is that it will improve the
production rates and efficiency of how quick their employees work based on the improvements from
the feedback that they get from their feedback.
Flat
The characteristics of a flat are when the CEO is at the top of the chain underneath him are the
managers and underneath of the managers are the staff members. The relationships between
employees will be better as it isn't a large hierarchical structure it only contains the CEO, Managers
and employees this will have a better communication base to support each other and that they can
have a better understanding and become comfortable so that they can have a better responsibility
within their roles. The impact on the organisation is that thus will benefit them to have better
coordination with one another and within the organisation and making it that they have effective
decision making and efficiency of the business to survive longer in the market.
Matrix
The characteristic of a matrix is when the president and CEO are at the top of the chain underneath
them are the VPs of marketing, sales, finance, human resources, and operations, below them are the
managers of those areas and below managers are the staff members of marketing, sales, finance,
human resources, and operations. The relationships between employees will be that as the matrix
structure is based on having different departments of the business to correlate with each other so
that they are more involved in group projects. This will improve the work quality because of the
impact on the organisation is that they will try to involve as many employees as possible. This will
help increase the productivity of that project by a lot because of the skills that are being used and
there won’t be any gap due to the different people being used.
Holocratic
Cranford’s organisation structure is a hierarchical because they have a headteacher under him they
have SLT members and under them they have members of different departments. This helps them
because they can manage the school together as the staff know the understanding of their roles.
Tesco’s organisational structure is tall because they have a lot of different departments such as
marketing, sales, HR, and customer service. This helps them as they can help each department to
make sure that they can make better decisions as a group.
