Introduction.
In the past 10 years the world has experienced an increase in the number of refugees and migrant all
over the world, but since the international laws surrounding the human rights and migration do not
provide a clear and valid framework to accurately and adequately address these developments.
Moreover, there are increase political pressure and rising level of identity theft crisis contribute to the
establishment of an environment filled with fear and anxiety. Security has become the primary concern
underpinning the rapid changes in the migration policies (Pospescu, 2018). Therefore, social workers act
as an advocate for the human rights for these refugees. This paper will focus on the identification of
conventional social work practices in dealing with the refugees and suggest possible alternatives
approaches.
Evaluating Of Conventional Social Work.
The social aspects of refugees was fueled by various violent conflict, wars and natural calamities such as
flood and draught thus bringing about difficult in survival to the affected parties. Examples of such
factors include the ongoing war in the middle east, the earthquake that lately affected Syria and Turkey,
South American civil unarrest in different countries, violent tribal movements and drugs wars in Mexico
(Libal, 2018). By the end of the year 2022 according to the United nations statistics and data the number
of forced refugees had rose to 87.5 million (UNHCR, 2022). The number of people that had been
displaced accounted for 60 million out of the given number while the reminder had to cross
international borders in search of refuge (Libal, 2018). The remining 27.5 million would go further to be
categorized as 4.1 million asylum seekers and the remining 23.4 million people as refugees.
At some level the political reconfigurations in terms of nationality and person’s citizenship would
attribute to the increased number of refugees or stateless people. And hence people’s right and
freedom are not recognized and they simply become venerable as they navigate between the different
states or bodies of the government (Pospescu, 2018). In order to address this all government’s need to
add and revise the existing migration and refugees policies by adding new layer of laws that protect the
refugees and restrict those in power from abusing them.
Problems Addressing This Issues.
Increasing the protection of forced migrants would have been the more humanitarian. According to the
research done by Greider in 2020, instead of following international human rights and humanitarian
standards, numerous governments shaped asylum policies based on discretionary political decisions.
These restrictions approach towards the refugees policies threatens the option of following
resettlements programs for refugees. In 2017 statistics shown that a decrease of 54% in resettlement
requested by the UNCHR occurred in comparison to the previous year (Libal, 2018). The effect of such
population movements will results in the long term and most likely negative implications.
As governments were attempting to respond to the increased pressure of forced migrants and hoc and
commonly with unjust policies , the united nations became an important body in mitigating the negative
implications. And the united nations started establishing refugees as a global issue and discussed
strategies of properly address it in the United Nations submit in New York. (Pospescu, 2018). Two
strategies were developed as “ global compact and safe regular migration” and “ global compact on
refugees “ (Hansen & R, 2018).
