INTRODUCTION • This lesson will provide you with some fun ways and interesting texts to reinforce speaking skills,
practise summary writing, respond to visual texts and strengthen sentence-writing skills.

, Listening and speaking - Unprepared speech
Watch the videos in the resource box before you engage with the activity.
The unprepared speech is delivered within a limited time and with minimal preparation. The secret is to speak often and to
practise for short periods. Teach yourself to make speeches by brainstorming ideas. Develop these ideas with effective
introductions, content and conclusions.
On the day of the unprepared speeches, your teacher will have a selection of topics and you may have to draw from a hat or
a box. You will have 2 minutes to prepare (Jot down ideas!) and will have to speak for 2-3 minutes. Do not act childishly when
asked to speak or refuse to speak. This can be fun – laugh with the others or at yourself if need be – a healthy humbling
exercise!
