Question 1 [21]
NB: When drawing data flow diagrams (DFDs), use the Gane and Sarson
symbols/notation set.
1.1 Draw, name and describe the four symbols used in a data flow diagram (DFD).
You may use a table to present your answer. (6)
An data flow diagram shows how information is prepared inside a framework
dependent on data sources and yields (Parnas & Madey, 1995). Visual images are
utilized to address the progression of data, information sources and objections, and
where information is put away. Information stream outlines are frequently utilized as
an initial move toward overhauling a framework. They give a graphical portrayal of a
framework at any degree of detail, making a straightforward image of what the
framework does. An overall outline of a framework is addressed with a setting graph,
otherwise called a level 0 DFD, which shows a framework as a solitary interaction. A
level 1 chart gives more prominent detail, zeroing in on a framework's principle
capacities.
The two main types of notation used for data flow diagrams are Yourdon-Coad and
Gane-Sarson, both named after their creators, all experts who helped develop DFD
methodology: Ed Yourdon, Peter Coad, Chris Gane and Trish Sarson. There are some
differences in style between the notation types. For example, Yourdon and Coad
notation uses circles to represent processes, whereas Gane and Sarson notation use
rectangles with rounded corners (Gelenbe & Mitrani, 2010).
All data flow diagrams include four main elements: entity, process, data store and data
flow.
