- Kinases: voegen een fosfaat toe aan een substraat (fosforylatie)
- Fosfatases: verwijdert een fosfaat van een substraat (defosforylatie)
De structuur van het eiwit wordt veranderd omdat een aminozuur met een fosfaat wordt
gehecht.
- 500 protein kinases genes → encodes for a kinase
- 2% of all genes are kinases
In een cel: 10-15% van de eiwitten zijn gemodificeerd door fosforylatie
- Het kan de functie of locatie van het eiwit veranderen
