It is important to remember that one’s perception of this dilemma varies and factors such as the person’s gender, education level, and societal position affects it. In addition to that, today’s stigma against people in favor of abortion and its legality nowadays led to increasing number of abortions that is not safe. Religion also has influenced people’s perception or what is moral and immoral, which affects one’s stance on this specific dilemma. Most religion condemn those who undergo such procedure, in some cases, religion prohibits people from doing it and consider it as a sin. These religious beliefs, however, do not apply to people with an atheistic view. People who are pro-life, usually are influenced by their religious beliefs and it is their basis or guide in judging if an issue is moral or immoral. Those who are in favor of abortion, or pro-choice, are more into leaving the choice to the woman carrying the child because it is their body and their freedom to choose what to do with it. Majority of those who are pro-choice consider the women’s ability to provide for the child’s financial and emotional needs. Outside factors like these affects one’s moral position on the issue, therefore, it varies person-to-person. The principle of categorical imperative is highly based on logic and rationality. Immanuel Kant believes that all people must be treated as deserving of respect and dignity from the beginning.
