Opioids- Synthetic or semi-synthetic drugs that are manufactured to be similar to Opiates. ie. Percocet, Dilaudid
What is a Stimulant? - answer A drug that increases the action of the central nervous
system, the heart, and other organs.
-may or may not be physically and psychologically addicting, found in powders and pills.
The most common is cocaine.
What is a Depressant? - answer Drugs that inhibit the function of the central nervous
system CNS and are among the most widely used in the world. produce drowsiness, relaxation, decreased inhibition.
-may have the potential to become addictive, most common is alcohol. other examples: valium, xanax
What is a Hallucinogen? - answer Drugs that can alter perception and have the ability to induce intense emotional feelings and cause hallucinations. - can be man-made or occur naturally, ie. LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, PCP
What is an Inhalant? - answer Products that are easily purchased and ingested by sniffing, inhaling or huffing fumes or gases into their mouth or nose, and they fall into 4 categories:
1. Solvents- liquids that become gas at room temp.
2. Aerosol sprays- discharged from pressurized containers
3. Gases- butane lighters, whipped cream aerosol.
4. Nitrates- common household products or prescribed
What is Cannabis? - answer aka Marijuana, the dried leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds from the hemp plant, cannabis sativa, THC is the main ingredient giving the high effect
-THC can also extracted into oils or resin, aka hash. What are Synthetic drugs? - answer man-made drugs, these include K-2 or spice, and bath salts. Can cause psychoactive effects to the user, similar to stimulants and hallucinogens.
How are drugs rated in North Carolina? - answer Drugs are placed into schedules, or
groups depending on the level of danger, risk of addiction, and medical uses for each particular substance. Rated from schedule I to VI, schedule I being the most dangerous.
