Experiment Log
Day 1: No Caffeine Day (Test Run)
Subjects were all gathered in the morning at 10:45am to run through the testing
procedure and what they will expect to happen in the next couple of days. The
subjects were also asked if any concerns have been raised regarding the
consumption of caffeine or the exercises in question. But there were no concerns of
that sort regardless of if there were any the remedial response was to replace
subjects who were similarly suited to the experiment. These subjects were then
called at about 13:00pm in order start the first test run.
Without any significant caffeine in their system
as they meals were monitored by themselves the
no caffeine test run was ready to be started.
Firstly, they had to perform the maximum
number of push-ups they could within 1minute.
All subjects were successfully able to complete
the exercises making the test run a success to start again. During the test run only
one trial was completed to ensure that there were no muscular fatigue or soreness
that could have significant effect on the trials.
Day 2: No Caffeine Day (Trial 1)
Day 2 was the first actual trial that contributed to our experiment. Therefore, the
subjects were called together to discuss test results and how to optimise their ability
to perform maximum push- ups. The subjects were shown how to breath in and us
through each repetition. And after highlighting these new techniques the subjects
were given time to rest and begin their first trial at 13:00pm.
All subjects were gathering, and they were all ready to perform. Subject 1 started
his repetitions with a 1minute timer. Subject 1 was able to perform approximately
30 quick repetitions in 32 seconds. But then stopped in exhaustion. After a couple
seconds of rest subject 1 proceeded to perform the remaining 13 at a moderate rate
and successfully completed 43 repetitions in 1minute.
Subject 2 then proceeded of start his set of repetitions with 1minute on the clock.
Subject 2 was able to complete 54 push-ups at a constant rate till the end of the
timer set for 1 minute. Possibly highlighting that he is a great candidate for this
experiment but limited by time and needs to be reinstated with a greater time limit.
Then came subject 3 who was equally prepared for the exercise then the other two
, subjects. They started their exercise with 1
minute on the clock. Subject 3 was able to
accumulate 47 push-ups in the 50 seconds at a
constant rate then slowly declined with
exhaustion to 49 successful repetitions in the
one-minute space.
Day 3: No Caffeine Day (Trial 2)
All subjects were gathered at 10:45am and all complained to experience sore chest
and triceps which were both results of the push-up repetitions. The subjects were
then prepared to start their second trial on the no caffeine. Subject 1 as usual was
first to go. Subject 1 started the push-ups with 1 minute on the timer. Like the first
trial, Subject 1 performed about 35 push-ups at a quick rate in the first 37seconds
but then declined to a slower rate with muscular exhaustion.
Overall subject 1 was able to finish a total of 42
push-ups in the 1-minute time. Subject 2 then
proceeded with their repetitions with about one
minute on the. Then subject to completed
approximately 40 push-ups in a time off 40
seconds and then took some rest due to muscular
exhaustion. About 5 to 10 seconds of rest subject to was able to complete 10 more
push ups accumulating the total push ups completed in one minute to 50. Subject to
also stated that it was harder to perform this set of repetitions due to the soreness
experienced from the first trial that was completed a day before. Then finally
subject three prepared to start their set for the second trial. Subject 3 started their
repetitions with one minute on the timer and was successfully able to perform
approximately 47 push ups in a time frame of the complete 60 seconds. Like subject
to subject three also shared similar experiences and performance changes compared
to the first trial which may have affected the number of repetitions.
Day 4: Caffeine Day (Test Run)
all subjects were again gathered to discuss how the caffeine trials will be
completed. Initially all subjects or confronted on their recent meals in the last 48
hours to note any significant amount of caffeine that could have altered the
accuracy of our results. After this was done at approximately 11 AM all subjects
were given 200 mg of caffeine dissolved in water. This caffeine was allowed to be
