The cell's shape determines its function, and understanding the cell's structure is vital to understanding its functions. Passive transport is a process by which substances move across the cell membrane without the use of energy. This process includes diffusion, osmosis, and facilitated diffusion. In contrast, active transport requires the use of energy and involves processes such as endocytosis and exocytosis. Learning about cellular functions and the different types of transport processes is crucial for understanding how the body works. What is the relationship to blood? The heart is a muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the body, providing oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and organs while removing waste products. The heart is divided into four chambers: the right atrium and right ventricle, which receive and pump deoxygenated blood to the lungs for oxygenation, and the left atrium and left ventricle, which receive and pump oxygenated blood to the rest of the body. Blood is the fluid that the heart pumps, and its function is to transport oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and immune cells throughout the body while removing waste products.
