Interdisciplinary: combining views from academics in art, design, film and theatre, to
present you with a broad sense of approaches and methods in creative research.
Critical thinking involves:
organising important information
structuring your thoughts
considering evidence
identifying assumptions/questions
evaluating arguments
communicating findings
The relationship between criticism and creativity:
you need to be able to look critically at your own work so that you can improve it
you need to take into account existing works in order to learn more about the craft
you can use criticism to gauge the audience you are writing for, as well as the society
you are writing work in
you can use criticism to produce more honest and self-aware work
you need to be able to understand how your influences affect your work and how your
audiences will view your work differently
your work can also have “critical potential” — i.e. you can use your work to criticise
an aspect of society
The three meanings of “critical”:
1. disapproval
2. analysis — i.e. critical judgement
