QUESTION 1

1.1. Describe your understanding of “lesson planning”.
Lesson planning is how teachers synthesize the curriculum goals with pedagogy and
knowledge of their specific teaching context.

The planning occurs in steps or stages that build up from beginning to delivery, through
the middle of the delivery to the end of the delivery. The teaching media or resources
which will be used during the lesson presentation should be stated in the lesson plan.
Some lesson plans use a lesson development concept rather than specifying steps in
the lesson presentation.

Lesson planning must specify the topic to be taught, the class grade or level, and year,
the name of the school, the identity of the teacher, the duration of the lesson, and
various steps of the lesson presentation.

1.2. What is the difference between a lesson outcome and a lesson objective?
Give an example of each.
Lesson outcome: A lesson outcome is a statement of what learners are expected to
know or achieve by the end of the lesson. Learners will be able to understand why the
content and knowledge that was covered during the lesson is so valuable and useful.
A lesson objective is seen more from the teacher’s point of view where he/she might
think about what he/she wants to achieve from this lesson.

Lesson objective: A lesson objective on the other hand is a statement that tells us what
learners will be able to do or achieve by the end of the lesson. An objective also shows
us what learners will be able to achieve from tasks, activities and discussions during
the lesson. A lesson outcome is seen more from learners, where they may ask
themselves what they will be able to learn from a particular lesson.

Learning objective Example: This class will explain new departmental HR policies.

Learning outcome Example: The learner is able to give examples of when to apply
new HR policies.

Learning objective Example: This lecture will list ten ways to de-escalate a
confrontation in the workplace.
