- Photosynthetic organisms such as plants and algae are able to produce their
own food therefore they are also the primary producers of biomass in all food
chains

- Glucose is the food plants eat and it is used for:

- Respiration
- Converted to cellulose to make cell walls
- Starch for storage
- Combined with nitrates to make proteins

- Photosynthesis is a chemical reaction in which plants take in carbon dioxide
and water from the air and soil. In the chloroplasts of a leaf, a green pigment
called chlorophyll (required!) absorbs sunlight and traps light energy from the
sun and uses it to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen
which the plant can use for cellular activities

- Carbon dioxide + Water —> Glucose + Oxygen

- Photosynthesis is an endothermic reaction as light energy is taken in from the
sun
