Machiek’s personal goal for the upcoming year is to be able to jump higher so that he can
dunk during his game. So that Machiek can achieve his goals, I will prescribe him strength
training and plyometric training specific to basketball so that Machiek is able to increase his
ability to jump higher, thus giving him more chance of being able to dunk during games.
Lifestyle:
Machiek does not have a job as he is a full-time student at college. He is busy during the
mornings and afternoons of most days as he is at college, but he has some spare time after
college where he could train. Machiek enjoys playing basketball in his spare time as well as
playing basketball at a high level for the Richmond Knights. Machiek can ensure that he does
not have to give up his spare time last minute as he has no family commitments.
Physical health:
Machiek physical health is good as he does not have heart problems, he does not drink or
smoke, he and he does not have high blood pressure. To be certain of this I took Machiek’s
blood pressure via an automatic sphygmomanometer, which gave a healthy reading of
115/72. Machiek trains 5 days a week and he is currently weight training when he does
train. Additionally, Machiek can run nonstop for 20 minutes so he does have a base level of
cardiovascular endurance.
Fitness level:
Machiek has above average muscular endurance based on normative data from Golding et
al. (1986) for the 1-minute press up test as Machiek achieved a score of 40 press ups. The
following table, adapted from Golding et al. (1986) provides normative data for the Press-
Ups for Men.
