This one contrasts the other structural theories, as interactionists take a bottom up approach.
Traditional relationships are based on marriage and blood, whereas the personal life approach
focuses on the meanings attached; these relationship do not have to do with family members but
there can be other types of personal or intimate relationships:
TIPPER - fictive kin
-children play an active part in deciding who family is. They may have close relationships with
people they refer to as aunt or uncle but have no biological or legal connection to them. They are
simply the close friends of parents so they are fictive kin.
