Dear Student,
This Tutorial Letter 102 contains both the first and the second assignments for semester 1 and
semester 2 students. Please Note: You must ensure that you do the correct assignments for your
semester. Incorrect assignments will not be marked.
1 ASSESSMENT
The purpose of this Tutorial Letter 102 is to inform you of the 2023 assignments, including
assignment due dates and unique numbers, as well as the assessment requirements for module
PLC2602, for students registered for both semester periods. Please only do the assignments for
your semester. Wrong assignments will not be marked.
1.1 Assessment criteria
NB: 20/80 Assignment/Exam Weighting
There are two compulsory assignments for this module. Both are compulsory for purposes of
admission to the examination and both contribute to your semester mark. They should be
submitted on or before the due dates. You should therefore begin working on your assignments
as soon as you register for this module.
In order to be admitted to the examination, you have to submit assignment 01 in good time.
**PLEASE NOTE** Assignments 01 and 02 jointly contribute 20% towards your final mark.
This means that your semester mark will be calculated on the basis of the marks you have
obtained in each of the two assignments. Assignment 01 (MCQ and written) counts 10%
towards your year mark and assignment 02 (written) counts 10% towards your year mark. In
other words, 10% + 10% = 20%. The semester mark (20%), together with your examination
mark (80%) will thus be used to calculate your final mark (100%) for this module: 20% + 80% =
100%.
It is therefore important to submit both of the assignments on time, since the combined formative
assessments will count 20% towards your final mark. Therefore, if you do not do both
assignments you stand less of a chance of passing this module.
Unfortunately, no extension for late submissions will be granted. This is due to requirements
from the Department of Higher Education and Training that have to be met. Connectivity issues
or loadshedding will not be considered as reasons for late submission. Therefore, do not leave it
until the last day to submit your assignment.
1.2 Assessment plan
To complete this module, you will be required to submit three (3) assessments (2 formative
assignments and one summative examination).
All information about when and where to submit your assessments will be made available
to you via the myModules site for your module.
Due dates for assessments, as well as the actual assessments are available on the
myModules site for this module as well as in this Tutorial Letter 102.
To gain admission to the examination, you will be required to submit two (2) assignments.
3
, PLC2602/102/3/2023
To gain admission to the examination, you need to obtain an average minimum year mark
of 50% for the assignments.
The assignment weighting for the module is 20%. The exam counts 80% towards your final
mark.
You will receive examination information via the myModules site. Please watch out for
announcements on how examinations for this module for which you are registered will be
conducted.
You must read your announcements regularly. If you do not read your announcements,
you will not be aware of important information regarding this module.
Please Note: The first assignment in each semester is composed of multiple choice
questions and a short discussion question. The second assignment is a written
assignment. Regarding both assignments, the assignments for semesters 1 and 2 are
different so please ensure that you are doing the correct assignments for each semester.
No exceptions will be made for students who do the incorrect assignments and no mark
will be awarded for incorrect assignments.
Formative assessments consist of two assignments. For information about the “Assessment
Plan” and “Submission of Assessments”, please consult your Tutorial Letter 101 and section 1.5
below.
Summative assessment consists of a formal examination. Please study your copy of my Study
@ Unisa, for all rules and arrangements pertaining to the examination. Detailed information about
the exam format and exam procedures will be released in an Examination Tutorial Letter once
the date for the exam has been set.
