Red leg syndrome
Red leg syndrome is de meest voorkomende ziekte in amfibiën. Red leg syndrome wordt
veroorzaakt door gram negatieve bacteriën zoals Aeromonas hydrophila (dus is een
bacteriële infectie of toxicosis). Reg leg syndrome zorgt voor stretching capillaries under the
skin waardoor amfibiën red legs/ventral abdomen hebben. Verder is de red leg syndrome
een systemic disease, dit betekent dat het de hele lichaam gaat infecteren en niet alleen één
bepaald orgaan of body part
Chitridiomycosis
Chitridiomycosis wordt niet zovaak gespot in animal facilities maar vooral in het wild.
Chitridiomycosis wordt veroorzaakt door een fungis genaamd Batrachochytrium
dendrobatidis. Er bestaan verschillende strains van deze fungi waarvan één strain
hypervirulent is namelijk Bd GPL. In europa is er een grote diversiteit aan lower virulent
varianten, hierdoor is er een soort bescherming tegen de hypervirulente strain Bd GPL.
Chitridiomycosis komt vooral voor bij wilde dieren en vooral bij salamanders.
Chitridiomycosis zorgt voor multifocal epidermal erosions and ulcera in salamanders. De
ziekte kan zich makkelijk verspreiden en kan leiden tot de dood van dieren.
