, INTRODUCTION
My name is Emma Yang. I was born in Seoul, South Korea
on the 13th of May, 2001, between a Belgian father and a
South Korean mother. Due to the fact that my parents
speak English to each other, and because I went to an
international school most of my life, my mother tongue
language is English along with Korean. My father
unfortunately never taught me Dutch when I was
younger, so I had to learn the language when I moved to
Belgium in 2017. My hobbies include: swimming,
watching movies and my guilty pleasure is taking a rest
day and quite literally doing close to nothing the whole
day. My favorite cuisine is definitely Korean, but I enjoy Mexican and Thai cuisine too.
I am interested in Thai culture since I had the privilege of living in Thailand for 3 years,
and it remains my favorite destination. I am also interested in African culture and I
would love to be able to speak Spanish. These factors led me to choose to study
International Tourism & Leisure in Thomas More. While it may sound cliché to say it’s
because I love traveling, it truly is one of the major reasons I enjoy studying tourism.
My short-term goals include expanding my knowledge about different cultures, getting to
know more people from different backgrounds, and of course finishing this semester as
well as I can. My long-term goals academically is mainly using the knowledge acquired
from school and applying it in my career.
It is not the primary reason I decided to study tourism, my dream job is to become a
flight attendant. Despite the general sentiment that flying can be less enjoyable for some,
I have a strong passion for the journey on the airplane and a desire to explore new
destinations, plunging myself into their unique cultures.
