Physical environment

All of the employers must make sure that the physical environment of the workplace
promotes healthy and safe working conditions so that all of the workers feel safe. The
employer will need to make sure that the workplace is comfortable, safe and healthy. As
workplaces have many dangers around, the employers and employees need to work
together and make sure the that workplace is a safe and comfortable place to be. Accidents
are many caused by falling objects, moving objects and hand tools. The employer should
carry out risk assessments and consider the risk in order to make sure the employees don't
get struck in the way of it.

The employees must ensure that:


the Items are stored above ground level so all the items are
securely stored and heavier items should be stored closer to
ground level.




Careful considerations should be given to methods such as
stacking, handling and movement of goods to prevent the objects
falling.
All self applied standing objects such as gas cylinders or objects
leaning against the wall should be stable.




Hand equipment such as knifes pose a danger therefore it should be safely stored and
safely used. Also protective clothing should be worn.


Moving objects such as pallet trucks, baking racks and trolleys impose a risk to all the
workers therefore all areas of the workplace including moving objects should be taken into
account when risk assessments are being carried out.


A common risk at workplaces are sharp edged and trailing leads
and it has an impact on the safe conditions. Most businesses have
desks, cupboards, drawers, doors, shelves and chairs in them.
Over some time these items start to show wear and tear and
especially for things like doors and tables. They become damaged
with sharp edges which then start to expose therefore damaged
items should be identified on risk assessments or should be
reported by employees. They then should be repaired or replaced.


For the safety of all staff, evacuation assemblies are located away from the work building. It

, is essential that all staff know where to go in case of a fire or any other
emergency. Procedures for an emergency evacuation in a fire safety policy document and
all staff should be trained on their induction about the fire and evacuation procedures so they
know what to do and where to go.


Sometimes work buildings can have work or repairs going on which
means that employees had a great risk of getting harmed. While
protective equipment will be put in place to protect them, gates and
signs will warm everyone in the workplace who tries to go where the
work is taking place as they could get injured or trip over objects that
are placed there. Employers therefore must complete additional risk
assessments to take into account any building work with potential
additional risks identified and then put in controls to protect workers.
Employees that work off site on the workplace must be protected as
well. All the risks must be highlighted and dealt with by the employer.
Health and safety should be looked after as well, this includes, covering drains and leaking
pipe works, cleaning all spillages, covering stored food and ensuring the building is well
structured etc.

All workplaces should be free of the presence of organic pests as it can
contaminate food and carry infections. Organic pests are pests such as
cockroaches, ants, birds and wasps etc. Any organic pests should be
reported right away as it is part of the health and safety. All pests such
as rats, mice and flies can cause health and safety risks so the
employer should put procedures in place to prevent all pests. Risk
assessments must be carried out regularity and employers must be
aware of any of these sightings as it can be very dangerous for
everyone in the workplace. To prevent all this regular cleaning should be taken place at all
times.


Water and mould will also cause a health and safety issue as it
could cause a health and safety problem for the employees such as
allergies, itchy sight and sneezing. Moreover, employees with
asthma will have a reaction to this atmosphere as they should not
be exposed to these situations because it can be very bad for their
health and safety. All employers should make sure that they don't
have this condition in their workplace and if they start developing
this condition then repairs around the workplace must be done.


At dome workplaces employees might have to use some kind of
material which they might be hazardous to their health therefore
the employer must reduce the possibilities by storing all chemicals
in the correct place with instructions, ensuring all employees have
protective equipment and making sure staff know how to use the
equipment and dispose of it. Managers and employers must
ensure that hazardous waste is identified at every stage of
production and correct measures are taken to protect the health of
employees and contractors who transport or dispose of waste.
