Chemistry Lab Report
Name: Date: Experiment #: 4
Title: Reaction Chemistry
Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to observe various types of chemical reactions and
their results which include six types of simple chemical reactions and reversible reactions. Also,
to detect chemical changes, exothermic and endothermic reactions along with color change reactions and different reactions where precipitates form. The oxidation-reduction of methylene blue indicator is also performed to demonstrate the reversibility of a reaction.
Procedure:
Reaction #1: Double Displacement Reaction
1.Begin with two test tubes with colorless solutions: one containing AgNO3 (silver nitrate) and one containing HCl (hydrochloric acid)
2.Add the HCl to AgNO3
3.Put a stopper on and invert the test tube.
4.Observe
5.Record results below
Reaction #2: Double Displacement Reaction
1.Begin with two test tubes with colorless solutions; one containing Pb(NO3)2 (lead nitrate)
and one containing KI (Potassium iodide)
2.Add the KI to Pb(NO3)2
3.Put a stopper on and invert the test tube.
4.Observe
5.Record results below
Reaction #3: Acid – Base Double Displacement Reaction
1.Begin with two test tubes with colorless solutions: one containing NaOH (sodium
hydroxide) and one containing HCl (hydrochloric acid)
2.Take the temperature of each and record below.
3.Add HCl to NaOH and mix.
4.Take the temperature of the mixture.
5.Record results below
Reaction #4: Acid-Base Double Displacement Reaction
1.Begin with two test tubes: one containing NaHCO3 (Sodium bicarbonate) and one
containing HCl (hydrochloric acid)
2.Add the HCl to NaHCO3
3.Observe a gas formation (CO2 gas)
4.Record results below Chemistry Lab Report
Reaction #5: Endothermic Reaction
1.Obtain a beaker containing NH4NO3
2.Take the temperature.
3.Add (BaOH)2
4.Add water to help combine.
5.Take the temperature of the mixture.
6.Take a piece of litmus paper to check for a base
7.Record results below
Reaction #6: Single Displacement Reaction
1.Mix Zinc metal (grey color) and HCl (hydrochloric acid)
2.Take the temperature before combining.
3.Mix the solutions.
4.Observe the H2 gas formation.
5.Take the temperature.
6.Record results below
Reaction #7: Single Displacement Reaction
1.Begin with a beaker with AgNO3 (silver nitrate) and a beaker of copper.
2.Combine the AgNO3 with the copper.
3.Stir
4.Observe
5.Record results below
Reaction #8: Combustion (Burning) Reaction
1.Strike a match.
2.Observe
3.Record results below
Reaction #9: Combustion (Burning) Reaction
1.Strike a match.
2.Light a candle.
3.Observe
4.Record results below
Reaction #10: Decomposition Reaction
1.Begin with two test tubes; one containing H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) and one containing
MnO2 (manganese dioxide)
2.Combine the H2O2 and MnO2
3.Observe
4.Record results below
