Unit 4, Assignment 1
Unit 4, Assignment 1 .
This assignment will cover both the skills and roles required by an event organiser and the
legal requirements they must follow in order to stage an event, Succeeding this is a skills
audit I have designed, and is followed by an analysis on the skills I currently have and those
of which I can improve upon.

P1
Event Organiser Skills .
One skill needed by an event organiser is time management. The reason being you will
need to meet deadlines, organise staff work schedules, run marketing campaigns. If you
don’t hold this must-have skill, it will result in your event going totally wrong; employees,
security, entertainers may not arrive at the correct time, suppliers may deliver too late and
much more.

Another skill which is required is good communication. This is because you will be dealing
with many people; vendors, security, entertainers, staff, etc. You must be able to contact
them to ensure they will be arriving, and on time. You must also listen to everything people
have to say, which can be their concerns, opinions, and suggestions. It is required as it
makes your event run smoothly. Without this, you find your event leading to one mess up
after another.

A third skill would be responsibility. If anything goes wrong, you must be able to take action
as a leader. Without a leader, you will find many employees will be clueless as they won’t be
assigned to their own responsibilities and tasks. If you don’t take responsibility, you’ll find
your event going bust due to no one knowing what they should do; a leader coordinates
people to said tasks and even sets their responsibilities.

My fourth skill would be attention to detail, as it’s the little things which provides the
greatest experience for everyone – was the temperature of the food just right? Was the
music too loud or quiet for everyone? Were the tables set out nicely? —> These things are
the finishing touches to your event, which will lead to that 5 star review every event organiser
desires.

My fifth skill I decided is good planning/organisation. This skill involves ordering your event
and structuring it, for example: the event starts at 16:00, food handed out at 16:15, the main
show starts at 16:30, and so on. Doing so will make managing the event easier and also
more efficient. This skill links back to time management. Good planning also means knowing
who to contact, where to locate your event, etc.

The succeeding skill I chose was negotiation skills. This can be either negotiating with
suppliers to get the cheapest possible price or with a customer, to negotiate as close to the
highest price they are willing to pay as you can. Negotiation with a supplier will keep costs of
supplies minimised, and negotiation with a customer will support the maximisation of your
profits.

Skill number seven is interpersonal skills. The reason for this is to build a sturdy
relationship with everyone you come into contact with. This skill builds strong chemistry
between people which lasts. Interpersonal skills between managers and employees will
boost morale, due to making the time spent at your event enjoyable. It will make them more
