Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs

C.P4 :Explain the strategies and communication techniques used with individuals
different needs to overcome different challenges

Verbal communication, nonverbal communication, alternative communication, and new
technologies are the four methods of effective communication. When a person has a
speech disability, for instance, health and social care workers can use alternative
communication methods like a specialised tablet or laptop. These communication
strategies help to meet individual needs.
There are four different theories to help meet needs and overcome barriers: Humanistic,
Behaviourist, Cognitive, Psychodynamic and Social.

C.P4: Explain the strategies and communication techniques used with individuals
different needs to overcome different challenges
C.M4: Assess the strategies and communication techniques used to overcome
different challenges faced by individuals with different care and support needs.

Humanistic principles: A person's surroundings has an impact on their behaviour. Human
development depends heavily on social connections. People are aware of their
surroundings and themselves because they are conscious of their existence. They are
conscious of their past behaviour and utilise it to guide their present and future actions.
People have free will and can choose consciously. They are not solely motivated by instinct
or impulsivity. Humans aim to make their lives meaningful and have intentional aims
(simplypsychology.org). In Billy's instance, the social worker should adopt a humanistic
approach by showing him unconditional positive regard, treating him with warmth and
acceptance in order to demonstrate to Billy that the social worker accepts and respects
him without passing judgement. The social worker's real empathy and genuineness for Billy
may also make him feel more at ease. The humanistic approach may be applied in all of
Billy's circumstances and is helpful in meeting his needs since it gives Billy options and
gives him hope to better his life. The humanistic approach's weakness, however, is that it
may be challenging for the social worker to avoid passing judgement and that it primarily
relies on effective communication (docs.google.com).

Behaviourism argues that all learners learn through interactions with the environment,
where concepts can be learned, unlearned, and relearned. The environment moulds
behaviour, and the consequences have an impact on the outcome. Internal mental states
such as thoughts, emotions, and feelings are irrelevant in explaining behaviour
(tutor2u.net). In Tremaynes' situation, his advocate must carefully listen, reflect, and clarify
the Tremaynes thoughts and feelings regarding behaviour. Tremaynes' advocate will then
talk about and agree on the desired behaviour, attitude, or emotions. The advocate then
