Megan Middleton Literature Review Unit 22. P4
P4- Plan a research project- Should we experiment on animals.
The area I have decided to focus on is Should we experiment on animals? I have chosen to
investigate this because I see it as an issue that is not improving. Animals are tested on for many
reasons, these range from medicines to cosmetics. I have carried out research and found out that
animals suffer tremendously for our benefit. Not only is it unethical but it is bad science as 92 out of
100 medicines tested on animals are proven to fail in humans. In addition to this, it is no longer a
recent way of carrying out research as there are now more humane, cheaper and faster ways to
carry out experiments.
Primary sources
1. The first primary source will be a questionnaire.
2. The second primary source will be a non-structured interview.
3. The third primary source will be a structured interview
4. The fourth primary source will be analyzing the results of experiments
Secondary sources
1. The first secondary source will be gaining knowledge from websites such as PETA
2. The second secondary source will be looking at websites
3. The third secondary source will be doing research in the media
4. The fourth secondary source will be reading books based around the subject
My own personal opinion on the subject is that animals should not be tested on as there are now
more modern ways to test products such as medicines as 92 out of 100 medicines tested on animals
fail in humans (as seen in the above text). Animals also should not be tested on for cosmetics as it
causes great harm. Cosmetic companies such as;
MAC
L’Oréal
Estee Lauder
Avon
Head & Shoulders
And many more test on animals for out benefit. Animals suffer tremendously, this includes;
Poisoning
Shocking
Burning
Killing
All of this happens within a laboratory daily, but it is seen as acceptable by a majority of people.
However, if these acts were committed outside of a laboratory, they would be considered felonies.
