Unit 6: Personal and professional development
Task 1
P1
Introduction:
In this essay, I will completely explain the significant influences on the personal learning process of
individuals. There are lots of things which can influence a person’s learning development, these can
be helpful or harmful encouragements.
What is personal learning development?
Personal learning development is a lifetime progression. It is a method for individuals to measure
their skills and qualities, reflect their goals in life as well as set goals to understand and take full
advantage of their potential. I have chosen three most important influences on the development of
individuals.
Influence 1: Family
Family is one of the major influence when it comes to the learning process of individuals. The
opinions your parents have in the direction of education will affect how hard you work and how
important education is to you. As you get older, you learn numerous things from your parents for
example, their standards and principles. If your parents do not think education is important and
don’t have careers, then you may think the same. Your environment may also influence the way in
which an individual personal learning takes place. For example, if you live in a loud, messy area this
might make it very hard to concentrate which will affect the quality of the work you produce.
Children copy everything grownups do but then in the way they understand it. So, for example, if a
child sees everyday a family member who is focused and tells them to focus on their future and
goals, they will have that mind-set but may work hard in a different way; however, this can be
changed by the influence of peers.
Influence 2: Peers
The friends you surround yourself with can impact just how well you study and in what way you are
willing to learn. If your group of friend’s study excellently, motivate themselves as well as each
other, pay attention in class and encourage one another to gain excellent grades, you are likely to do
the exact things. However, if your group of friends do the complete opposite and are rude to
teachers or do not work hard enough or produce a good quality of work then you are more than
likely to follow their steps.
There are some friends who will discourage you by not helping you with work or motivating you to
work harder, this will cause your level of learning development to decrease or stay on the same
level. Even worse, they can lead your goals in life to not prosper through bad doings such as bad
attitudes or getting into fights which may get you kicked out of school.
Influence 3: Education
