Wervelkolom
Er zijn over het algemeen vier houdingen die als ‘normaal’ worden beschouwd. De houding is
namelijk per persoon verschillend.
De wervelkolom bestaat uit 5 delen:
Cervicaal: 7 wervels, lordose
Thoracaal: 12 wervels, kyfose
Lumbaal: 5 wervels, lordose
Sacrum: 5 vergroeide wervels, kyfose

Algemeen (C3-C7)
In het algemeen hebben de cervicale wervels een kleine corpus
vertebrae, een groot foramen vertebrale, kleine processus transversi,
een foramen teransversarium, korte processus spinosi (C3-C5), die een
gesplitste punt hebben (C3-C6).
C1 (atlas)
De atlas heeft geen corpus vertebrae, geen processus spinosus, lange
processus transversus en een groot foramen vertebrale.
De atlas articuleert met het hoofd (C0) en met C2.
C2 (axis)
De corpus die C1 niet heeft, is onderdeel geworden van C2 en wordt de
dens genoemd (proc. Odontoideus). Voor de rest is C2 gelijk aan de rest
van de cervicale wervels.
C2 articuleert met de arcus anterior van de atlas en met C3.
Lumbale wervel:
- De corpus vertebrae is relatief groot en het foramen is relatief klein.
- De procssi spinosi zij horizontaal georiënteerd.
Thoracale wervel:
- Relatief kleine corpus
- Costovertebrale en costotransversale gewrichtsvlakken
- Processi spinosi zijn naar beneden georiënteerd.
