The need for the program, its integrity, and it's results, including abstinence, social adjustment and reduction of criminal behavior of those treated in the program, must be evaluated Five critical components of effective treatment 1) Assessment 2) Patient-Treatment Matching 3) Comprehensive Services 4) Relapse Prevention 5) Accountability Sensory reception the process of receiving data about the internal or external environment through the senses The process of stimulus and response occurs in three stages sensory reception, interconnection, motor response interconnection the stimuli creates an electrical message that is then transmitted from one part of the system to another motor response an appropriate response is triggered such as a muscular contraction, as a result of a message being sent back to a body part by a nerve center nervous system the brain, spinal cord, and the peripheral nerves CNS composed of the brain and the spinal cord. psychoactive drugs have their primary effect on the central nervous system
