M2. Compare how cultural differences and foreign business environments affect multi-national
corporations.
For one country some things are quite normal whereas for other countries it may seem strange or
weird. In this assignment I’m going to compare 5 different cultural subjects with its environmental
aspects that affect operating in a foreign market. Going over 5 countries; China, Egypt, Norway,
Portugal and India. At the end of this assignment you can find a conclusion. Enjoy 😊
1. China
China is the world's most populous country. It has a continuous culture stretching back nearly 4,000
years and originated many of the foundations of the modern world.
Cultural In China, dog meat is expected to be served in Chinese restaurants. The
Chinese people would also expect dog meat in different regions outside of
China. For example, Chinese people would expect dog meat in Chinese
restaurants, even in the UK.
Environmental In China there is a child policy where every family is restricted to having one
child. The Chinese government made up this policy because the Chinese
population is already at its maximum. If I (non-Chinese citizen) decides to go
move to china I’m only restricted to having or getting one child. This could
change my mind of living there.
2. Egypt
Egypt has been known for its pyramids and ancient civilisation, Egypt is the largest Arab country and
has played a central role in Middle Eastern politics in modern times.
Cultural In Egypt its common for women to shake hands when you meet new people.
Non-Egyptian citizens may find this a weird habit where they might not feel
comfortable with shaking hands with people they just met.
Environmental Egyptian people (have to) dress according to how much they are worth. If you
don’t have a lot of money or are not rich, you cannot dress like someone who
is rich. If I (non-Egyptian citizen) decides to go there, people might think I’m
trying to offend them or they might think its offensive in general.
