Unit 4 – Impact
of the use of IT
on business
systems
,P1
External pressures
Full of beans will have external environment factors which contributes for the need of change. These
can he legislatve regarding the law and some could be fnancial.
Changing regulatory and legal frameworks
Full of beans need to apply within legal frameworks, this will impact full of beans. Full of beans
interpretng legislaton and frameworks has determinaton of the content of internal policy. For
example, laws governing illegal fle sharing has lead to many businesses banning the use of p2p fle
sharing. For example if an employee at full of beans has a sofware which has been paid for then they
should not give the fles and sofware to someone else. Full of beans also should apply within the single
equality act and be paying the minimum wage or higher to employees, otherwise full of beans would be
breaking the law. Full of beans will also need to apply within many other laws such as: Data protecton
act, Computer misuse act, and the disability discriminaton act. Full of beans should also make sure to
prevent users from getng repettve strain iniury, for example giving regular breaks to employees. Full
of beans may also need to create a policy to make it’s website apply within other laws, if full of beans is
a world-wide website then it should meet the legal requirements of the other country laws.
Keeping up with compettors
Full of beans will have increased competton by global businesses at local level using e-commerce. This
has allowed businesses operatng online to have more traditonal traders. For example if full of beans
starts to sell their products online, compettors can rapidly come in and begin competng online also and
there could be compettors which have possibly started selling the same products as full of beans
already. With this full of beans can keep up with the competton from current and possible compettors
in future.
Enhanced business opportunites
The enhancement in technology has led to the host of business opportunites for many organisatons
and businesses have been able to emerge and having the ability to take advantage of the opportunites.
For example if full of beans sell their products online they may not require a warehouse to hold the
stock and have the ability to sell the products when they are purchased by customers online only. This
means that full of beans wouldn’t require to spend less/any money on rent for the warehouse or less
expenses on the warehouse.
, Increasing globalisaton
Developments has increased access to the internet, email and video conferencing will allow full of beans
to very easily and quickly fgure out other suppliers and/or distributors of the possible products full of
beans wants to sell world-wide, this is known as globalisaton. owever, this is likely to lead to increased
competton. Therefore, full of beans need to ensure that they are able to use the benefts of technology
available in the most efectve way possible to having reduced costs and increase efciency by making
the most of their technology, while not reducing the quality.
Potental for outsourcing
Outsourcing is when getng a third party to provide a service that would usually be performed and done
by a member of staf , employed directly by that organisaton. For example if full of beans wants to cut
on their costs, for example to increase or update their technology they may choose to outsource.
Outsourcing has the ability to provide technical support for full of beans might prove in being more cost-
efectve than running an IT department, For example full of beans would have the cost of training their
staf, purchasing the equipment, and rent of buildings which could be very expensive. Full of beans could
also fnd another locaton where labour is cheaper, regardless of distance, this is called resourcing, for
example in India labour and minimum wage would be much less than the united kingdom and could
work out much cheaper.
Improving customer service
If full of beans can produce their products and their products to be delivered in a shorter lead tme The
amount of tme taken before delivering a service or product) without lowering the quality of the product
then the customer is likely going to be satsfed. Full of beans aim is to improve customer service. This
can be gained by freeing up tme and resources to increase productvity.
