APPOINTING THE NEW HR MANAGER AT SIZABANTU–LOANS-FOR-AFRICA
Sizabantu–Loans-For-Africa is a new financial service that employs 12 consultants who report to Mokgadi
Tebeila, the Human Resource Manager of this organisation. One morning Mokgadi received a call from
the head office, notifying her that the top management as well as the major shareholders of the
organisation decided to expand the business. She was told that already the building for the new branch
was complete and ready to be occupied at the nearby town. However, Mokgadi had to appoint the HR
manager for the new branch from the 12 consultants she is currently managing. She was told to keep that
in mind when reviewing her subordinates’ performance next month. This came unexpectedly to Mokgadi.
“Who should I recommend?” she thinks. “Should it be the outstanding performer who brought more than
20 new customers to the organisation in the previous performance review circle; or the one who was
always polite and kind to both the current and potential clients?” One thing that puzzles Mokgadi the
most is the fact that the vacant position is at the management level, which she is not sure if there is
anyone amongst her subordinates appropriate for it. She finally decided: “maybe I should use all
approaches that are available when I review the performance of my subordinates next month.
