Colin Ratledge is Emeritus Professor in the Department of Biolog-
ical Sciences at the University of Hull where he has been teaching
and researching for nearly 40 years. He has served on almost all the
major biotechnology committees in the UK, including Chairperson of the
Food Research Grants Board of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences
Research Council. He also acts as a consultant to many industrial compa-
nies in the UK, Europe and the USA.
Bjørn Kristiansen is the Chief Executive Officer of EU Biotech Con-
sulting in Norway. He is an active member of the European Federation
of Biotechnology (EFB), including co-founder and interim chairperson for
the Section on Biological Engineering Science.
