TCIP/IP INTERNETWORKIN G VERIFIED EXAM PRETEST 100% GUARANTEE PASS
TCIP/IP INTERNETWORKIN G VERIFIED EXAM PRETEST 100% GUARANTEE PASS Q.N.1 Repeater: A repeater works in the physical layer of the OSI model which is the first layer in the OSI model. (Forouzan,2010, p.83) The repeater regenerates the signal and amplifies it reducing the noise. So, a repeator is used to regenerate the analog and digital signal that are lost during the transmission before the signal is too weak or corrupted. A repeater isn’t as intelligent as compared to that of the switch since it only regenerates the corrupted data and forwards it to every ports. A repeater doesn’t look for the Mac address or IP address for the forwarding of data but it only regenerates the data lost during the transmission. Repeaters generally works with the bits as contrast to that of the frames in switches and packets in routers. Also, the repeaters don’t have the filtering capacity.( Forouzan,2010, p.84) Switch: lOMoARcPSD| A switch works in the data link layer of the OSI layer which isthe second layer of OSI layer. A switch is much more intelligent as compared to that of the repeator. The switch keeps a track of all the devices connected to its port using their Mac address respectively. This record table called as Mac address table is then used intelligently by switch to forward data to its respective ports. There is a lot of saving of bandwidth and power in cases of switch as 1 lOMoARcPSD| compared to that of repeater. Thisis one of the main difference between a switch and a router where a router works on the basis of IP address whereas the switch works on the basis of the Mac address. Only the receiver will receive the packet in switch resulting in delivery of unwanted transmission. Switch is generally used by large network for transmission of data. Router: A router is a three-layer device. i.e, physical layer, data link layer and network layer. A repeater only connects a segment of LAN whereas the router connects independent LANs or WANs to create an inter-network such as internet. It performs following actions at the respective layers such as regeneration of the signal at the physical layer, checking of the physical address in the data-link layer and checks the network layer address in the network layer. (Forouzan,2010, p.86) The main differences between the router and a repeater are as follows: • A router has a address for each of the interface. • A router changesthe physical address of the packets when it forwards the packet. • A router acts on only those packets where the destination address matchesthe interface address. ( Forouzan,2010, p.87) A router is more expensive and complex than switch because the router works in three layers whereasthe switch worksin only one layer. A router worksin three layersi.e, physical layer, data-link layer and network layer whereasthe switch only worksin the data-link layer. Also, the switch works on the basis of Mac address whereas the router works on the basis of the IP address. A switch is generally more complex and expensive because a switch is intelligent as compared to that of the repeater. A switch forwards packets on the basis of the Mac address 2 lOMoARcPSD| whereasrepeater just regenerates the signal and forwards to every port. A switch worksin the data-link layer whereas the repeater works in the physical layer
