Concept: een categorie of klasse van gerelateerde items; het bestaat uit mentale representaties van
de items

Prototype model: een manier van denken over concepten: binnen elke categorie is er een beste
voorbeeld – een prototype – voor die categorie

Exemplar model: een manier van denken over concepten: alle leden van een categorie zijn
voorbeelden; samen vormen zij het concept en bepalen het categorielidmaatschap

Stereotypes: cognitieve schema’s die een gemakkelijke en snelle verwerking van informatie over
mensen mogelijk maken, op basis van hun lidmaatschap van bepaalde groepen

Script: een schema dat het gedrag binnen een situatie stuurt in de tijd

Decision making: poging om het beste alternatief te kiezen uit verschillende opties

Problem solving: een weg vinden om een obstakel heen om een doel te bereiken

Heuristics: sneltoetsen (vuistregels of informele richtlijnen) die worden gebruikt om de hoeveelheid
