to assess how far the PLA was the key factor in establishing communist rule it is necessary to
consider whether the force exerted by the PLA was the main reason though which communist
rule was established in the years 1949-57. Accounting for the aforementioned considerations,
the use of propaganda, government structure will be assessed alongside the PLA. Ultimately,
it will be demonstrated that the PLA was ,to a large extent, the key factor in establishing
communist rule from 1949 to 1957.
