Inleiding
Protozoa zijn ééncellige heterotrofen en worden officieel niet bij de dieren gerekend, maar voor deze
cursus wel. Ze spelen wel een hele belangrijke rol in de natuur, als ziekteverwekkers maar ook bij de
opbouw van kalksteen (foraminafera). Ze bezitten een duidelijke één- of meervoudige kern, meestal
diploïde, soms
Het verschil tussen een protozoöncel en een dierlijke cel is dat de protozoöncel zelfstandig alle
levensfuncties verricht, terwijl een dierlijke cel voor sommige levensfuncties afhankelijk is van andere
cellen.

indeling:
Rhizopoda (psuedopoda) met pootjes
Sporozoa kunnen sporen vormen
Ciliata hebben cillia (haartjes)

Morfologie

- kolonievormende soorten weinig of geen celdifferentiatie
- één of meer kernen per cel
- meestal zonder endo- of exoskelet, maar sommige groepen met een beschermend schaaltje
Fysiologie

verschillende soorten voeding, soms zelfs fotosynthese

Osmotroof dmv osmose, géén fagocytosis
Fagotroof dmv fagocytosis
Macrofaag actief jagen (amoeba)
Microfaag actief filteren met opgewekte
waterstroom (ciliata) of ergens tegenaan

o Kleine carnivore protozoa voeden zich met bacteriën, grote
zoals Amoeba proteus met andere protozoa. Er zijn twee soorten voedselvacuolen:
Fagocytotische vacuolen, die grote voedselpartikels omsluiten
Pinocytotische vacuolen, die kleine opgeloste deeltjes bevatten
Osmoregulatie en excretie via kloppende vacuole
o actiever bij zoetwater protozoa dan bij marine
