SPSS practicum 1 and 2 developed.
Includes questions and related answers.
Marked in yellow are all steps in SPSS and I've included images.
The most important terms are in bold.
In this first assignment, we will analyze a data file that is made available by dr. J. Braeken. It
contains a simulated dataset based on the article “The effects of trust in physician on self-
efficacy, adherence and diabetes outcomes” that reports a study on the connection between the
trust in one’s own physician and health in diabetic patients.
You will conduct a path analysis of the following model:
The variables in the data file are:
Y1 Trust in ones physician
Y2 Self-Efficacy
Y3 Outcome Expectations
Y4 Adherence
Y5 Self-rated health
Y6 Objective health
1. The path model you will analyse represents a theory that is described in the article:
Lee, Y & Lin, J. (2009). The effects of trust on self-efficacy, adherence, and diabetes outcomes.
Social Science & Medicine, 68, 1060-1068. Download Lee, Y & Lin, J. (2009). The effects of
trust on self-efficacy, adherence, and diabetes outcomes. Social Science & Medicine, 68,
1060-1068.
Briefly describe the theory that makes up the conceptual model (see information button).
o This study tested a theoretical model of variables influencing the
relations of trust to both objective and self-rated health
,What are the causal hypotheses?
objective health outcomes
- Trust positief effect op self-rated health, via self-efficacy
o We hypothesized that patients who trust their physicians more were
likely to have stronger self-efficacy and outcome expectations. We
expected this, in turn, to be associated with better treatment
adherence and objective health outcomes. In addition, we
hypothesized that highly trusting patients would be more likely to
report better health status
through enhanced self-
efficacy
2. You can use regression analysis in SPSS to estimate the path coefficients (regression
coefficients) of the model. To do so, you need to divide the path model into separate
regression equations.
How many regression equations do you need to estimate all path coefficients of the
model?
- 2 (want 2 endogene variabelen)
Now perform the regression analyses in SPSS and estimate the path coefficients.
- [To run a regression analysis: Analyze > Regression > Linear]
- [Remember that you need to perform one regression analysis per regression equation]
regressie vergelijking)
, 3. What is the value of the (unstandardized) path coefficient B51?
- -0.031
4. What is the p-value of path coefficient B51?
- 0.320
5. Use the path coefficient (B51) and its significance to give an exact interpretation of
the effect of Y1 on Y5
- 0.320 > 0.05, dus de padcoëfficiënt is niet significant
o Dus, trust in one’s physician is not a significant predictor of self-rated health
6. For you final answer, please paste all the syntax you created during this assignment
into the answer box below
Please open the article that you also used in Assignment 1
1. Find the path diagram in the article that includes all six variables that we also have in
our data file
If you’d want to estimate the path coefficients of the path model with all variables, how many
regression analyses would you need to perform?
- 5 (want 5 endogene variabelen)
Conduct the regression analyses that are needed to estimate the path coefficients A through
F
