P6 Explain the factors that contribute to an effective workplace in travel
and tourism organisations.
There are different factors that contribute to an effective workplace which I am going
to illustrate in my essay form.
Working Environment includes location and working conditions, hour of work,
health and safety and equipment and resources.
Location is one of the factor under working environment that contributes to an
effective workplace. Location has to be an effective factor for the employees to
make them feel happy and motivated. Within the travel and tourism industry,
some people may be enough to work at an overseas holiday resort. Location like
this contribute towards an effective workplace as with good weather and happy
customers it is relatively easy to have a positive attitude during work. So, the
advantages employees will be taken for working in a good location are: training,
progression, always engaged with working, learning different parts of the world.
However, on the other hand you can be stuck working in a call centre. This
means you will be occupied over the phone the whole day. Organisation have to
consider how poorer environments can be improved so staff stay motivated. So,
the disadvantages for working in a bad location are: long hours, fatigue, no
breaks, bad management and low pay.
Hours of work vary throughout the sector. Some people are happy to work

working hours is chosen by employees, but within limitations. For example, if
you are a business travel agent dealing with a customer in Dubai coming to the
UK, you would have to consider the time difference for the customers and work
different hours.
Health and safety is a large factor to consider when working in an effective
workplace. In 1974 the Government has implemented ‘Health and Safety Act’ to
ensure that everyone in the workplace stay safe and all the organisations must
comply with them. A failure in health and safety procedures can cause the
collapse of a business and even persecution. Part of the legislation includes food
and chemical safety when working in certain areas of the industry. ‘Food and
Safety Act’ has implemented in 1990 to make sure that people were serving
safe food and not out dated food. Companies usually have trained in place and
ensure that all new and existing employees to complete their training.
Equipment and resources is another important factor that contributes to an
effective workplace. Companies have to provide the employees with the right
