Throughout Rebecca's case, the benefit of the support that she receives would be that she is
able to become more independent and learn how to use the supportive and adaptive
equipment that she is provided with. The professional that may help her would be an
occupational therapist as their role is to support individuals with physical disabilities in order
to carry out their everyday activities as well as make possible changes to their home,
educational setting and possible workplace. This will be beneficial for her as she is able to
gain advice on how to be more independent and how to carry out tasks by herself, this will
also help her in gaining more skills that will be useful in her future life. Thus, a
physiotherapist may also be able to help her as their role is to provide the individual with
different types of therapies in order to improve movement, functioning and general wellbeing.
Some therapies will include hydrotherapy, manual therapy, therapy exercise or acupuncture.
This will benefit her by promoting movement and healing of her injury.

The adaptive support that she would gain would be daily living adaptations as she will need
changes around the house in order for her to be able to carry out her daily activities and be
able to function independently around her house. Daily living adaptations would be raised
toilet seats, shower chairs, higher charger ports and sensor motion devices. This will benefit
her by providing better functionality around the house and enable Rebecca to be more
independent.

Provision is made as a holistic approach and unique to Rebecca as the care plans are made
with her rather than by the professionals. The professionals that may cooperate throughout
the care plan may be a social worker as their role is to support people of all ages with their
daily living and provide advice for people that may struggle to cope with their problems. The
techniques used may be to involve her in her care planning and ensure that her opinions and
that her ideas are taken into consideration, include her input of any kind and ensure that her
cooperation is respected and met accordingly. This would be unique to Rebecca as she
would need her own care plan which will include her daily activities at home, school and
even in the society. Hence why the holistic approach is something that would be used in
order to ensure that different aspects of her life are included in her care plan and are also
supported with the right care and resources.

The success of the techniques and the process used can be measured as high due to the
support that Rebecca receives. By providing her with the right equipment and support from
professionals she is able to become independent. However if she was paraplegic she could
be offered mobility aids alongside with a professional such as a physiotherapist in order for
her to gain mobility in her legs and be able to walk. This would be successful for her if she
was to have mobility assistance such as motorised scooters, wheelchairs or walking frames
which would lead to her being successful in being more independent and having the ability to
carry out her activities by herself and without the need of support.

Throughout Ben’s case, the benefit of the support that he receives would be that he is able
to learn and understand basic concepts in order for him to become more independent and
enable him to gain the right skills for his future. A professional that is able to help him would
be a speech and language therapist as they are able to provide support with the difficulty of

his speech, communication and other language difficulties that he may have. This will enable
him to become better in his speech and language skills as well as be able to communicate
with others more effectively. Another professional that may benefit him would be a social
worker as they are able to support his lifestyle as he has mental and health problems due to
his Down’s Syndrome condition, which can redirect him to do certain things by himself such
as reading and understanding professional documents. Furthermore, this would benefit him
as a social worker is able to support him in understanding difficult aspects of his life and
become independent in doing things by himself rather than with the help of others, however
this does not mean that he will not be under supervision.

The adaptive support that he would gain would be mobility aids, if his type 2 diabetes was to
become worse, he could be at risk of his leg being amputated therefore mobility aids could
be an adaptive equipment as he would be able carry out tasks by himself such as walking
alone to a shop or performing his hobbies such as gardening. This will benefit Ben as he is
able to be independent and be able to not ask for help unless he needs it, this will also teach
him boundaries and learn when to ask for help.

Provision has a holistic approach and is unique to Ben as he is involved in his own care, this
means that the professional would work with him rather than doing all of the work for him.
This would mean that his ideas and opinions would be taken into consideration and he would
also have input into his own care plan where appropriate. This will benefit him as he is able
to guide his own care and take control over what support he can gain from the professionals.
The techniques used for this may be to include his personal hobbies and aspects of life such
as religious belief, medical treatments, family, education and work.

The success of the techniques and process used can be measured as high due to the
support that Ben receives. As he is provided with daily living adaptations, if his condition was
not considered severe and he did not have the mentality of an 8 year old he may be able to
understand how to use the daily living adaptations by himself rather than having it explained
by other people. If he did not have the mentality of an 8 year old he will be able to be
successful by also being provided with a professional such as a social worker in order to
provide support for him and help him throughout his life as well as giving him advice on what
to do when he may be confused. This will lead to a successful use of the techniques and
process provided for Ben as he is able to become independent and be able to gain the skills
needed for his future.

As she is a child she will be able to have a Common Assessment Framework (CAF) as this
is a system for gathering all of her needs and requirements and how they can be met
specifically for her. However, the Common Assessment Framework has been changed to
Early Help Assessment (EHA) which has the same effect as a CAF, but it contains less
paper work and it is more straightforward. This will benefit her within her educational setting
as the staff is able to provide her with the right information and be able to provide the correct
support. A Common Assessment Framework is for children who require support in their
growth and development area, additional educational requirements area and family and
environment issues area.
