- Historische relaties
1500 = komst van de Spanjaarden, einde indiaanse rijken en begin koloniale periode.
1822 = Mexico onafhankelijk geworden van Spanje (was een bloederige strijd).
Begin VS = door 13 Britse kolonies waar later nog eens 37 staten bij kwamen. Daar komen veel
immigranten op af.
-Grensgebied
1848 = de huidig grens van Mexico en VS tot stand gekomen.
1836 = riep VS de republiek Texas uit gevolg was veel discussie met Mexico (oorlog). Mexico verloor
en moest dus land afstaan.
Vroeger was er weinig aandacht voor grensbewaking nu is het veel strenger.
-Overeenkomsten en verschillen
Mexico aan de grens = het is beter dan andere delen van Mexico.
VS aan de grens = het is slechter dan andere delen van de VS.
VS is een centrum land, Mexico is een semi perifere land.
Overeenkomsten = bevolkingsgroei is in beide landen erg hoog. VS heeft een pullfactor voor Mexico
dat komt door de werkgelegenheid (vooral jongen mensen).
- Mix van culturen
Door de geschiedenis heeft de VS een multiculturele samenleving. Mexico cultuur en VS cultuur
bemoeien weinig met elkaar.
