Software Utilities
A software utility program is something which performs a very certain task and it is usually related to
managing system resources. Operating systems such as Windows and Mac OS etc. contain a plentiful
of utilities for managing disk drives, printers and plenty of other devices. The utilities differ from
applications and this is mostly in terms of size, complexity and function. Utilities are sometimes
installed as memory-resident programs and on DOS Systems, the utilities are called TSRs. Although
utilities can be included with the operating system, they normally aren’t considered as part of it and
people will more than likely install replacements and additional utilities.
Virus Protection
Anti-virus software is a program or set of programs that are designed to prevent and search for,
prevent and kill software that is a virus. Anti-virus can also remove harmful software like Worms,
Trojans, adware and more viruses. These tools are almost standard to have for users to have on their
systems. A computer without anti-virus will be infected within minutes of connecting to the World
Wide Web.
Anti-virus companies have to update their detection tools constantly and this is because that 60,000
new malware is created every single day. It also helps maintain performance by keeping a safe
environment for the user and to keep malware out that will slow down and decrease the system
performance for the computer. If the system is malware free then the system will be at the best
performance and without interference or the decrease of performance.
Firewalls
A firewall is a network security system and it monitors and controls the incoming and outgoing
network traffic and it is based on the predetermined security rules. The firewall acts as a barrier
between a trusted network and an untrusted network. And this means that the only traffic allowed
into the network will be defined by the firewall policy and all of the other traffic is denied access.
This tool maintains the performance by regular updates by the user and also by the operating system
to maintain the function of the firewall. This utility helps out by keeping the bad traffic out that may
contain malware or malicious code and this in itself maintain the performance by terminating any
suspicious data packets that could potentially harm the computer.
