, 1 INTRODUCTION
The following examination portfolio will provide, definitions, explanations,
elaborations and discussions based on the following: Media Policy and Regulation,
Internal and external media regulation, Media Management, Media and
communications market , Representation, Media and the construction of identity,
Gender and the media, Media and the environment, and Media and violence. A brief
overview of the Bill will be provided and then a discussion on whether the Bill can be
regarded as internal or external regulation. Five characteristics of the media will be
discussed, also, the difference between intermedia competition and intermedia
competition will be discussed. Under representation, a definition/explanation of
semiotics will be presented linking it to the selected advertisement. An essay on the
construction of identity from modernity to postmodernity and its movement towards
cyber identity will be elaborated. Additionally, a critical discussion on the differences
between feminism and masculinity will be explained. An article related to floods that
occurred in the KwaZulu Natal province in April 2022 will be chosen and questions
will be answered based on it. Lastly, a television programme that displays violence
will be selected and an essay will be written in relation to media and violence.
