INTRODUCTION:

From the very beginning of America, the Africans have been the part of their history, culture,
society and economic development. The Americans and Africans are like two sides of the same
coin. Therefore, the essential component of their shared history is literature which represents the
world of Americans and Africans from entirely different perspectives. However, the perspective
in literature depends mostly on author’s observations and point of view. The focus of this essay
is to elaborate the history of African-American along with the major themes of their literature. It
will also analyze the work of John Edger Wideman in the light of African-American themes.

HISTROY OF AFRICAN AMERICAN:

African Americans are mostly the descendants of enslaved people who were brought to this new
world from their homelands with the purpose of taking extremely hard work from them on little
wages. They remained as the lowly poor circle of the society till many decades. They were not
approved to get any right in social, economical and political matters of US states. This one step
of bring the black people in US as slave led to one of the major wars in America. It was the cause
of Civil war (1861-1865). As a consequences of this war, the movements related to Africans
started such as Black Lives Matter movement. Along with it Africans writers, as the leaders of
Black people begin to emerge to shape their crumpled identities. The effort they put in to unite
the African community again is visible to the world as now most of the opportunities are
available to them without any discrimination. Up till now, Africans have successfully managed
to reestablish the lost identity of their nation and culture under the power of Americans. With the
intense rise of Africans in American states, they started to demand their separate representation
in their society, culture and even in literature. This rise of conflict introduced us a new variation
in American literature that is African American literature.
