Unit 3 – P3

Promoting a Brand

Cesar Felix Audi, Legaspi
For this assignment I will describe the purpose of elements of the promotional mixed for a
selected branded product.

Advertising – The Colgate advertises their products through television, newspapers, magazines,
leaflets and many more. You will also sometimes find posters, posted out a shop about a
toothpaste or if it is on sale.

Public relations (PR) – Colgate has a website full of information about what the product is all
about, inquiries and many more. For example: if you are part a part of the media, you need to
contact Colgate’s Media Relations.

Personal selling – This is where the company sells the product directly to the customers. The
person selling the products are aiming to inform and encourage the customers to buy, or at least
trial the product.

Direct selling – This is selling products directly to consumers away from a fixed retail location.
This is usually done in a face-to-face manner and this is where the products are demonstrated to
an individual.

Sales promotions – This is where you persuade the customer to buy the product. There are
different sales promotions, such as discounts and buying a product, then you get one free. Some
sales promotions are aimed at consumers.

Promotion – This is to let the potential customers know of what is on offer. This can also show
of what item is being promoted, For example: Colgate can set a certain type of product on a sale.
There are many promotional ideas that the company can use to generate sales.

Awareness – This is where you inform customers on what is the product made of, where the
product is made of, as other customers might be allergic to certain ingredients. This is also to
raise awareness of how effective the brand is.

Comparisons – There are other Toothpaste companies out there, and the customers have
options on what brand to buy. But in my Opinion, Colgate will always be the best toothpaste, as it
is reliable and effective.

Retention – This is where you remind customers on where to buy products. The product could
be found at different retail companies such as ASDA and Tesco’s.

Two aspects – The message used in advertisements are very persuading and interesting. They
also use social media website to advertise their product, such as Twitter and Facebook. Without
social media websites, they sales might go up really slow.

Print –Potential customers could find the product being advertised in newspapers, magazines,
billboards, direct mail, televisions and many more. They print needs to be clear so potential
customers will read it clearly.
