TASK 4
M3
When looking over the statutory requirements along with when the services are recognising the
needs of citizens as individuals and groups, I believe that these are two very effective methods when
promoting diversity and equality in the services and society. I think that the methods of having the
statutory requirements of the 4 laws is important. The 4 laws are, Human Rights Act, Equality Act,
Freedom of Information and Data Protection Act. The reason for why I think this is because all the 4
laws are effective and work together to ensure that everyone within the services and UK are
following them. An advantage of human rights is it protects many different things with an individual.
A positive thing would be right to life. This means that everyone has to right to live their life how
they want to. This is ensuring that everyone Is able to live and do what they would want to. This is an
advantage as individuals won’t be discriminated on how they live. There are not many disadvantages
with human rights. Even though there are measures in place to reduce the risk of discriminated and
violation to someone’s rights. There are many cases where communities or people have breached
someone’s right to privacy. I don’t believe that this act needs any more changes to it as it is very
effective in what it needs to do. An advantage of having this act in place in the working environment
and in society is because it allows everyone to believe in what religion they want to as this act
protects it. This is extremely effective as there are many different religions within the UK and the act
ensure that personnel and civilians respect that. A disadvantages to this act would be that even
though the services and society have to respect and treat people fairly. There will be some
individuals who won’t agree with some religions and might act upon that and discriminate them.
There are measures to reduce this risk but there are always situations where people are
discriminating people due to their religion. I believe that there could be a couple more measures to
stop any discriminating to anyone. I do think that the human rights and equality act is very effective
when trying to promote equality and diversity and is well needed in the services and society. With
the Freedom of Information act there are advantages and disadvantages to it. An advantage of this
act would be for the society. The positive thing about this act is the main reason for why it was
introduced. This is getting the right for the public to access information from the government about
communities which they might require information from to help them in a case or something else. A
disadvantage about this act could be companies might not feel comfortable about sharing certain
information to the public as the company might get a negative response etc. The Data Protection act
also has advantages and disadvantages. A positive thing about this is it is keeping people’s personnel
information safe and secure so no one else can see. A disadvantage to this act would be that a
company could be hacked making information be released or personnel in the company might use
their authority unfairly and access the people information to either use against them or send to
other individuals. All of these 4 laws work well together and are important for the working
environment and society because they are very effective as the laws are reducing the risk of people
getting discriminated because of what their beliefs are or gender they are but it is doing its role of
promoting equality and diversity. Another reason for why it works well is because in public services
buildings they know that individuals will be disabled. The buildings are given ramps or even elevators
for the disabled to allow them to get around.
