Girl In Translation
Your expectations and first reaction tot he book
When I saw the cover of the book for the first time it looked very interesting, but when I read the
back of the book it looked very boring. It looked very wordy to me. But when I read the first pages it
was extually a really nice book and it was a easy book to read.

Summary
Kimberly Chang and her mother moved to America when Kimberly was 11 year’s old. Kimberly her
father died when she was 3 years old. Her aunt Paula helped them moving to America and tried to
make them act like real Americans. Kimberly and her mother didn’t speak english. They had to learn
it when they moved to America. Her aunt Paula was married to an american man named Bob.
Together they had a son, his name was Nelson. Kimberly her aunt made an agreement for Kimberly
and her mother to let a cheap appartment, but when they arrived it was a really bad appartment. It
was very dirty, windows without glas in it and a lot of rats and insects. Her aunt arranged also work
for her mother, she worked at the fa of aunt Paula and uncle Bob. The people who worked there
where illegal and worked for little money. Kimberly had to help her mom at the factory, because her
mother couldn’t afford that much work on her own. In Hong-Kong Kimberly was a smart girl, but that
changed because she couldn’t speak the english language. Because of that she couldn’t show her
talent, except for maths, with maths she didn’t need to reed english. She went to a normal primary
school were she met a girl named Annette. She became friends with her, but she had to lie to her.
Her aunt didn’t want anybody to knew where she lived or that they worked at the factory. Kimberly
didn’t had a phone and couldn’t always meet with Annette at her home. Kimberly met Matt at the
factory, he’s a very kind boy who has a lot of respect for his family. He did everything he could for his
family, he lived for already 5 years in America. It was always very cold at Kimberly’s appartment. So
they slept in the kitchen where they turned the furnace on to get it a bit warmer. Kimberly her
english wasn’t really good and because of that she didn’t had really good grades. She was a really
good student, but couldn’t show it to others, so she bought a dictionary. One day she went to
Annette’s house, it was one of the most beautyfull houses she had ever seen. She knew that she
couldn’t always go to her home, because she knew that she had to invite her to her own house.
Kimberly her mother didn’t dare to speak up to her sister about the bad appartment, but she
prefered to leave and find a better one. After a little while Kimberly got to know that she had to go to
a private school, because she was to smart, except for her english. Of course her mother couldn’t
afford that kind of money. Kimberly told her mother that she could get a scholarship and her mother
was very happy for her. Maybe they could finally leave the appartment and build a better live.
Annette went also to a privateschool and wanted to go together with Kimberly. Kimberly and Annette
where both hired at Harrison, but her aunt didn’t agreed with this. All the letters where delivered at
her aunts house, because nobody might to know where Kimberly and het mother lived. Her aunt was
so jalous, because Kimberly was hired and her son Nelson not. Kimberly her mother was very proud
of her daughter and was happy for her. Kimberly went to Harrison, she was bullied, because of her
clothes. She had old clothes, because they hadn’t money for new and nice clothes. Kimberly lied a lot
to her mother, because she wanted to hang out with her friend Annette, they wanted to go to the
cinema as example. Kimberly got a new friend his name was Curt, her bond with Matt became
stronger. He showed her nice things of the city. During an inspection in the factory, they needed to
hide the children, because they weren’t 18. Matt kissed Kimberly while hiding, but Matt had a
relationship with another girl named Vivian. Kimberly her heart was broken. Kimberly had a
relationship with Curt since senioryear, she was avoiding Matt. One day Annette stood for her house
and got to knew where Kimberly really lived. Annette was shocked and wanted to help Kimberly.
