BIOD 101 MODULE 2 EXAM QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS 4/6/22, 10:26 PM Module 2 Problem Set: Essential Biology I with Lab-2021- Bowman
https://portagelearning.instructure.com/courses/767/quizzes/20301?module_item_id=70036 2/12Your Answer:Describe evolutionary adaptation and give an example.
All organisms adapt and evolve over time as a whole; An organism's
adaptations to its environment are the result of evolution - For example, the ghost plant is adapted to conserving water; this helps it
to survive in the crevices of rock walls
Evolutionary adaptation, often called generational evolution,
specifically refers to smaller , genetic changes that allow for
better survival of an organism. For instance, consider
camouflage. Animals that are properly camouflaged within
their given environment will, theoretically , survive longer and
can thus reproduce more. Coat (such as fur) color genes with
the greatest survival rate will be strengthened and amplified
within the population. Over time, more and more animals will
inherit these colors until most of a population has the
adaptive camouflage that allows for optimum survival. (See
section 2.1 in the module) ptsQuestion 3
Your Answer:What is an adaptation? What characteristic of life would an adaptation fall
into?
An adaptation refers to the process of becoming adjusted to an
environment. Adaptations may include structural, physiological, or
behavioral traits that improve an organism's likelihood of survival, and
reproduction
