M3

In this assignment, I am going to produce a table that will identify three suitable
performance indicators to use with individual employees and show how the individual
performance can be improved through performance management.

Job role Key performance
measurements
Sales Benchmarking Benchmarking
assistant Benchmarking could improve for future development by
Sales targets getting more training so that that they are properly equipped
to have the proper skills to be able to improve on their results
Probation time that got in the past. Some experienced employees could be
brought in to train the current employees as they have a
better chance to learn from them. This can also help improve
the sales targets in Tesco by comparing the results from the
previous results and see if they are on track or not.
For a sales assistant, the managers at Tesco can use
benchmarking to review the performance and the progress of
their employees. They will review the performance by looking
at how the progress for each employee is going and if any
developments can be made. The disadvantage of not
reviewing the employees performance at Tesco is that, the
managers will not know the progress that they are making
and whether they are close to achieving their targets set to
them. After being reviewed they can look at the growth and
how far they have improved. This will help them know where
they are and how they can do better.
This can help Tesco plan for future needs because when they
know that they have employees with certain skills that they
have proven they can work and get the results done, then
Tesco can comfortable plan for the future without the worry
that they won’t be able to deliver to their customers through
the sales assistants. They can also plan for the future is by
testing the employees if they are capable to tackle smaller
benchmarks before they can test them on future goals. This is
another way of training them for the future.
An example for this is whereby a sales assistant can look at
the previous results that the manager at Tesco had collected;
this can be either results from the past year or the past
month. Then looking at improving those results. By improving
on the results, this will improve Tesco’s profitability as it will
mean that the results would have been improved.

Sales Targets
Having sales targets set for a sales assistant in Tesco can help
them improve them because they know what they are aiming
at. As the target, will be a number set by the manager for
them to aim for. Knowing where they need to get at will
encourage them to work hard to please their manager and to
satisfy themselves as they will feel as if they have achieved
something.
Sales assistant can be managed and reviewed through sales
targets. This can be done when the sales assistant has been
set the targets to achieve by a certain time. When the
assistants haven’t been able to hit those targets, then the
managers will know something isn’t going right. This can be
time the Tesco decides to take action of whether the targets
are unrealistic or the employees aren’t working hard enough.
When they aren’t reviewed the possibility of the sales
assistants at Tesco not taking their work seriously is likely to
happen. This will even result to the employees not reaching
their targets. An outcome for this will be that poor
performance and unhappy customer’s percentage will
increase.
This information can help Tesco plan for the future because; if
they have employees who are achieving and hitting their set
targets then they will know that those employees will be able
to handle pressure and difficulties that may face then in the
foreseeable future. This can also help Tesco in deciding
whether they will need to readjust they team to be able to
cope with the future demands as they are not sure whether
the current team will put the Tesco in danger.

An example for a set target is, the sales results for last
months could be recorded and be given to employees to try
and emulate those numbers or do better than them. If the
sales numbers were 60,000, the employees could try and
upsell the products to reach that number. By doing this Tesco
is benefiting because more money is coming in and so are the
employees themselves they are satisfying themselves with
their performance.

Probation time
Probation time can be used to improve the performance of a
sales assistant by encouraging them to work harder or be
disciplined. Being closely observed may help them improve
their performance because they’ll try and impress as they
might be new employees or employees
They can be reviewed by being given test about the jobs and
