Samenvatting H3 - Elementaire deeltjes: terrorisme (I&NV)Terrorisme is vooral een middel om een bepaald doel te bereiken. Angst en geweld wordt hierbij
functioneel ingezet. Terrorisme kan daarom worden gezien als een instrument.
Terroristen zijn er op uit om aandacht en ophef te creëren. Politiek draait daarin een grote rol.
Volgens Europol zijn de volgende 5 terroristische organisaties te onderscheiden: (1) religieus
geïnspireerd terrorisme, (2) etnonationalistisch en separatistisch terrorisme (aansluiting bij een ander
land of zelfbeschikking bepaalde regio), (3) extreemlinks en anarchistisch terrorisme, (4)
extreemrechts terrorisme en (5) ‘single issue’ terrorisme – gericht op een specifieke politieke of
maatschappelijke kwestie.
Europol geeft wel aan dat terroristische groeperingen vaak een mix aan motieven heeft.
