Zuurstofrijk bloed is helderrood. Zuurstofarm bloed is donkerrood. pH tussen 7,35 en 7,45.
Bij volwassenen 5 tot 6 L bloed. 8% van lichaamsgewicht.

Bloedplasma is 90% water. De rest:
- Plasma-eiwitten
- Voedingsstoffen
- Zouten (elektrolyten)
- Ademhalingsgassen (O2 en CO2)
- Hormonen
- Afvalstoffen
Plasma-eiwitten zijn meest voorkomende opgeloste stoffen in bloedplasma. 3 belangrijkste
typen zijn albumine, globulinen en fibrogeen.
Albumine = transporteiwit. Ook voor in stand houden van de colloïd-osmotische druk van
bloed -> genoeg water in bloedbaan. Te veel = oedeem
Globulinen = antilichamen (immunoglobulines). Helpen beschermen tegen ziekteverwekkers
Stollingsfactoren (zoals fibrogeen) = bloedverlies tegengaan als bloedvat kapot is.

Hemoglobine (Hb) -> ijzerhoudend eiwit dat zuurstof bindt. Kan ook CO2 binden. Het gehalte
wordt uitgedrukt in mmol/l. Bij mannen 8,5-11 en bij vrouwen 7,5-10 mmol/l.

Verschillende soorten witte bloedcellen met eigen kenmerken. Nodig voor schade door:
- Mes, val, iets waardoor een wond ontstaat
- Ziekteverwekkers, bv. bacteriën of virussen
- Tumorcellen
Chemotaxis proces dat als ergens schade ontstaat dan maakt het lichaam stoffen aan die
witte bloedcellen aantrekken.
Leukocytose als het aantal witte bloedcellen boven de 11.000 cellen per mm3 bloed komt.
Geeft aan dat er ergens weefselschade is, oftewel een ontsteking. Is dus normale reactie.
Leukopenie abnormaal laag aantal witte bloedcellen. Vaak veroorzaakt door bepaalde
medicijnen, zoals ontstekingsremmer en medicatie tegen kanker.
