1 What is the connection between the title and the book? Explain in detail with examples from the
book. How does the title relate to the main character/s?
- the book is about a girl named Lily Bloom and her life when she moved to Boston. When she was
living at home she met a boy named Atlas who she fell in love with. The boy moved away from her
hometown and they fell out of contact. When she moved to Boston she had another boyfriend
named Ryle, but suddenly she came across Atlas again and after some time and events they became
a couple again. So the title stands for her teenage lover who she fell in love with again.
On the cover you can also see some crushed flower: lilys. They stand for the pain Ryle has done to
her.
2 Characterization: What kind of person is/are the main character/s? In what ways does that
become clear to you as a reader? Explain with examples from the book.
- Lily is a very sweet and caring girl. She always wants the best for others. For example when Atlas
was homeless and she cared for him, let him eat, shower and rest in her house. But she is also
someone who stands up for herself, she had a boyfriend named Ryle who hit her and she went away
from him.
3 Who is your favourite character in the book and why? Explain with details of what he/she is
saying / doing in the book.
- My favourite character is Lily because I think she is a really nice girl with a lot of dreams she wants
to make true and she handles problems in her life very good. for example she moved to Boston to
start her own flower shop and she works very hard to make that dream come true.
4 Development: In what ways does the main character change or develop during the story? How do
you notice that as a reader? Give detailed examples from the book.
- You get to read a few flashbacks about her life when she lived back by her parents and when she
cared for Atlas, there you can see she is already changing a bit as a person. Later when she lived in
Boston she leaves Ryle and I think that is the best development she makes in this storyline.
5 Conflict: What is the most important emotional conflict that the main character becomes involved
in? How does the writer end the conflict? Explain.
- I think there are 2 conflicts, the first one is when Lily cared for Atlas and she had to keep that a
secret from her parents. She got really stressed some times and was scared her parents would find
out. And the second conflict is when she was in a relationship with Ryle but he begun to hit her, she
went to her mother to ask advice because her mother went through the same thing. Her mother
advised on leaving Ryle and that's what she did after some time.
6 Ending: Is there an open or closed ending to the book? How did that make you feel as a reader?
- Open end. At the end of the book she gets together with Atlas again and she gets pregnant from
him. But you don't get to know how there live is after she gets the baby. That made me feel very
