 we zijn verzot op nadenken over onszelf en anderen en over hoe te reageren in
sociale situaties
 anderen observeren, hun gedrag analyseren, is een fulltime activiteit
 belangstelling voor sociaalpsychologische thema’s in de media

2.1. Definitie van sociale psychologie
 sociale psychologie is de wetenschappelijke studie naar de wijze waarop
gedachten, gevoelens, motivaties en gedragingen van mensen beïnvloed
worden door de werkelijke of gefantaseerde aanwezigheid van anderen en hoe
wij zelf een invloed uitoefenen op hoe andere personen denken, voelen en zich
gedragen – Allport
vb: economen onderzoeken effect van reclame en consumentengedrag
vb: politicologen onderzoeken effect van regimekenmerken en
protestgedrag
 sociale psychologie: cognitieve, affectieve en motivationele kenmerken



2.2. De kracht van de sociale situatie
 wij laten ons op continue wijze beïnvloeden door onze sociale omgeving
 voorbeeld: presidentieel debat Reagan vs Mondale
o met oneliners en reactie = standaardsituatie (controle)
o zonder oneliners en met reactie = manipulatie 1
o met oneliners en zonder reactie = manipulatie 2
 niet oneliners, maar publieksreacties maken het!
